A classic car club has gifted a generous sum to charity.

Mortimer Classic Motorcycle Club has donated £5,000 to Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

The donation was sourced from donations, club funds and money raised from this year’s scrambles meetings held by the club at Theale.

Vice president Mike Smith, chairman John Dowse and his wife Chris recently presented the cheque to representatives of Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

“It now costs £4,500 per flight for the Thames Valley Air Ambulance to attend an emergency,” said Mrs Dowse.

“So, the club were very pleased to cover the cost of a flight.

“Over the last few years, the club has donated a total of £9,000 to this invaluable charity.”

The club was founded by two late Mortimer residents, Joe Challis and Alf Whiting, in 1934.

It will be marking its 90th anniversary next year.

The club will be running further scrambles in May, July and September. Details are on its website.

Thames Valley Air Ambulance, founded in 1999, is a charity providing emergency medical care via land and air in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
