West Berkshire Classic Vehicle Club reaches £200,000 fundraising target for Blood Cancer UK at 30th annual show
West Berkshire Classic Vehicle Club (WBCVC) raised nearly £14,000 for charity at this year’s Newbury Classic Car Show.
The club presented a cheque of £13,749.70 to a Blood Cancer UK representative at The Bowlers Arms on Monday, September 11.
The money was raised at WBCVC’s annual classic car show which took place on Sunday, August 6 at Newbury Showground.
It featured a wide variety of rare and sought-after cars, bikes and HGVs, all the way from mopeds to a 40-tonne recovery truck.
Becky Mason from Blood Cancer UK was present at the evening earlier in the month to receive the cheque.
She said: “We’re delighted that the Newbury Classic Car Show raised nearly £14,000 for Blood Cancer UK in 2023, which was the event’s 30-year anniversary.
“Without long lasting support like this, we would be unable to fund research into blood cancer, the UK’s third biggest cancer killer, and support those affected by the condition.
“Since 1960, Blood Cancer UK has invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives, and 30 years since its inception the Newbury Classic Car Show has helped to raise more than £200,000 of this amount. Thank you.”
Speaking after the show, WBCVC chairman Mike Kent hoped that the “brilliant” 2023 edition had finally helped the club reach its £200,000 fundraising target for Blood Cancer UK.
