Cold Ash pub owners appeal to keep marquee on permanent basis

In April, the pub in Gladstone Lane, which has had the marquee erected for almost two years, was refused retrospective permission for it by West Berkshire Council.
Planners turned down the application on the basis that the marquee was obtrusive on the neighbouring residents and detrimental to the character and appearance of the surrounding area.
The council said that the pub could keep it erected while it decided whether or not to lodge an appeal.
It has been an issue which has long-divided the opinion of villagers, with some suggesting it would help the pub survive, and others saying that it was out of keeping with the area and was not sound-proof.
Anyone wishing to make a comment on the appeal should do so by November 15 at www.planningportal.gov.uk/pcs or by emailing Teame1@pins.gsi.gov.uk
Those without internet access can send three copies of a representation letter to Chris Martyn, The Planning Inspectorate, Room 3/26 Wing, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Bristol BS1 6PN.
No date for the hearing has been set.
