Cold callers banned in nine more West Berkshire streets
In Speen, the ‘no cold calling’ zones will be enforced in Groveland Road, Chaucer Crescent, and Talbot Close and new zones in Wash Common will cover Villiers Way, Bell Holt, Normay Rise, Conifer Crest, Bedlow Close, and Willowmead Close.
In each zone, prominent road signs are displayed and each house is issued with a door sticker repeating the message that cold callers are not welcome.
Anyone who cold calls at a property displaying a sticker or in a street where signage is present could be in breach of consumer protection laws.
The scheme is managed by West Berkshire Council’s trading standards service, Thames Valley Police and local residents.
Similar schemes already operate in parts of Hermitage, Donnington, and Newbury.
The executive portfolio holder for trading standards at West Berkshire Council, Dominic Boeck (Con, Thatcham South and Crookham), said: “This is a good example of communities deciding how they want things to be in their own neighbourhood and working with the council to make it happen.
“We will now help residents to ensure their wishes are complied with.”
