Total of four schools closed today (Monday) due to cold weather related problems

WINTER weather has played havoc with West Berkshire schools today (Monday), with two closing due to burst water pipes and another partially closing because its boiler failed.

Park House School's boiler failed overnight, forcing it to cancel classes for year seven and eight pupils.

The boiler has now been repaired, but administrative manager Hazel Meaney at the school in Andover Road, Newbury, confirmed that it would take a long time to heat up, so there would be no classes for these two years today.

St Bartholomew's School in Andover Road, Newbury, closed at 12.30pm today after a water pipe burst in one of its main blocks. Engineers are currently looking into the problem.

Similar problems affected Mrs Bland's Infant and Nursery School in Jordan's Lane, Burghfield Common, which closed due to a flood on Friday and its heating was not working today.

The fourth school affected is Downsway Primary, in Warbreck Drive, Tilehurst, which has closed to years five and six, because its heating has broken down.

Updates to follow.
