Collapsed Bayer 10k runner remains in hospital

He is 46-year-old father of one, Russell Barrett from Newbury.
Meanwhile his saviour has called for defibrillator devices, like the one he used to revive his stricken friend, to be more readily available.
Mr Barrett, an experienced runner, collapsed just yards from the finish line of Sunday’s event.
In a remarkable co-incidence his friend and fellow runner - Thames Valley Police officer Pc Keiran Baker - was trained in advanced resuscitation techniques.
The officer, realising his friend was not breathing and had no pulse, performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation until a Red Cross automated external defibrillator (AED) could be used to restart his heart.
Pc Baker said: “We got him back - he was breathing by himself again.”
Mr Barrett was flown to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford by air ambulance where, according to social media reports, doctors were planning to bring him out of an induced coma today (Tuesday).
Friends have set up a fundraising website so others can boost Mr Barrett's favourite charities. You can access it here:

Meanwhile Pc Baker has called for more life-saving defibrillator devices to be installed in local towns and villages.

Despite the drama, the run was a huge success. It was won - for the fifth, consecutive year - by 42-year-old Gareth Watkins, who completed the course in 33 minutes and 49 seconds.
