Collapsed sewer to blame for Newbury store's problems

NEWBURY'S Superdrug store in Northbrook Street is due to reopen tomorrow after Thames Water engineers worked on a collapsed sewer this afternoon (Friday).
Flooding had forced a temporary closure of the store although staff were still able to accept and dispense prescriptions from the front door.
A sign posted outside said: “Due to flooding in the shop we are unable to open as normal. However the pharmacy is open for prescription collection and drop offs. “Should you require advice from the pharmacist please feel free to request for the pharmacist. Sorry for the inconvenience and we hope to resume business as normal tomorrow”
Store team leader Craig Foster said the store had been experiencing problems with flooding for several days and added: “We're expecting Thames Water to come out this afternoon.”
Thames Water spokeswoman Natalie Slater this afternoon: "We are currently on site at a suspected sewer collapse. We were contacted on Tuesday to reports of a blocked pipe which we went out and cleared, but were called again this morning with further problems. We are investigating exactly what the problem is at the moment and apologise for any inconvenience caused."
