Colossal cake sale in Newbury proved exceedingly good

In aid of the charity Help for Heroes, which raises money to support members of the armed Forces in the service of their country, the amount raised just topped the £6,766 raised last year.
One of the organisers, Harriet Carrow, said they were indebted to legions of bakers and helpers who made the day such a triumph, despite the rain and chilly wind, adding:
“Newbury should be proud of its generous support of such a worthy cause and rest assured that it is deeply appreciated.”
“Many of our wounded serviceman and women may need help for the rest of their lives, so our work is far from done.”
Many local companies and organisations who gave their support included; Hethertons Bakery, The United Reform Church, Vodaphone, Tesco, Newbury Sound, Elstree School, JLD School of Dancing, West Berkshire Council, Thorngrove School, Newbury Sea Cadets and Rivar.
