Combe Gibbet: pair arrested for assaulting police
Incident arose from single vehicle accident
POLICE have arrested two men in connection with an incident at Combe Gibbet in which two officers werer allegedly assaulted on Saturday night, September 26.
The men, aged 45 and 50, were arrested in Andover, Hampshire, during the early hours of Sunday morning.
The 45-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, whilst the other was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
The officers had responded to an incident around 9pm at The Gibbet in Combe Road, following a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a white coloured Nissan van which had landed in a ditch.
While dealing with the incident the officers were attacked by a man from the vehicle who made off from the scene.
One of the officers sustained a laceration to the head as well as a hand injury. The other received bruising to the head.
Both officers, a man and a woman, were taken to Great Western Hospital, Swindon, where they were treated for their injuries. They have since been released and are recovering at home.
