Come back to Newbury, Paddington!
A STREAM of outraged Paddington Bear fans have staged a wake, leaving solemn offerings of marmalade and even poems.
They were mourning after the little bear from darkest Peru was kidnapped.
One note - from ‘Grace’ - said: “I’m sorry this happened to you; hope you get better soon.”
Another said: “Please come back to Newbury - this town needs you.”
It was accompanied by a drawing of her hero, missing in action.
Another said: “You suffered loss and hardship on your journey to the UK but are unfailingly polite and kind.”
The world watched in horror as the bear was hijacked from his bench outside Camp Hopson in the town centre on Saturday night, March 1.
The news was published in journals as far flung as Pakistan and the USA.
The good news is that he has been rescued from captivity, assessed for injuries and will soon be back on his favourite perch in the sun.
