Community digs in to brighten up Speen

A team of volunteers have been working together to create a brighter environment for the Speen community.

On Friday, October 3, residents and a team from Xtrac in Thatcham all came together for a ‘Planting Day’ to plant various seeds around the Brummell Road estate.

Volunteers were laughing and chatting whilst carrying out the digging.

People joined for a day of teamwork and hard work, while others donated money, bulbs and tools to help make the day a success.

Ms Bird says it was wonderful to see how much people care about their local area.

And the Speen Co-op manager thanked everyone with a hot drink and pastry.

Also welcoming was Sian Cousins, landlady of The Starting Gate pub, where the community café is based, who gathered donations of plants and bulbs.

There are already plans for another community gardening day in the future.
