Community radio off the ground and on air

Local dignitaries, including the mayor of Thatcham, Mike Cole, and the mayor of Newbury, Anthony Pick, attended the event to celebrate the fact that the station has been awarded a licence by Ofcom to transmit on FM for a three-month trial period.
On offer will be music from the last six decades, local news, travel and weather, as well as a series of in-depth interviews with local chefs and restaurateurs, and sport results.
The idea of Kennet Radio was hatched over a year ago as a way of giving like-minded former professional radio presenters and enthusiasts the chance to bring community radio to Newbury and Thatcham.
Listeners across Newbury and Thatcham can now hear the station by tuning to 87.9 MHz on a normal FM radio, as well as online.
