THIS enchanting community performance transported audiences to the depths of the ocean and the heart of a timeless tale.
Grace Durber’s portrayal of Ursula embodied the character with a captivating blend of malevolence and charm. Her performance showcased her exceptional vocal range and acting prowess. Her rendition of Poor Unfortunate Souls was particularly mesmerising, drawing the audience into Ursula’s wickedly enticing world. Durber brought depth and nuance to the role, making Ursula more than just a villain, but a complex character with her own desires and motivations.
Kate Izzard as Ariel was the embodiment of wonder and determination. Izzard’s performance was a radiant beacon of the production, her voice a perfect match for Ariel’s spirited and dreamy nature. Izzard captured the essence of Ariel’s longing for a world beyond her own, her performance brimming with emotion and sincerity. The chemistry between Izzard and her castmates added layers of depth to the relationships explored on stage, making the story’s themes of love, sacrifice, and understanding even more poignant.
Sean Strange’s Prince Eric was both heroic and heartfelt. His portrayal brought a refreshing authenticity to the role, creating a Prince Eric who was not only brave but also deeply empathetic.
Jerome Ifill as Sebastian and Rose Durber as Flounder provided stellar support, adding humour, warmth and wisdom to the tale. Ifill’s Sebastian was the perfect mix of comedic timing and musical talent, while Rose Durber’s Flounder was delightfully endearing, showcasing a promising talent in her own right.
The production itself was a feast for the senses, with stunning set designs, imaginative costumes, and innovative lighting that perfectly captured the magic of the undersea world.
Kate Izzard and Company have outdone themselves, delivering a production that was both visually arresting and emotionally stirring.
The Little Mermaid was a resounding success, thanks in no small part to the incredible talents of Grace Durber, Kate Izzard and the entire cast and crew.
