Commuter misery following M4 and A34 accidents and Reading rail signalling problems
The A34 at East Ilsley currently (2.40pm) has one lane open each way, north and southbound. The Highways Agency aim to open both lanes within two hours. when the central reservation barrier has been repaired.
The M4 has since fully re-opened, although motorists are being warned to expect lengthy delays.
The A34 at East Ilsley was badly affected by a car transporter accident (pictured) this morning, south of East Ilsley, causing long queues of traffic.
According to Thames Valley Police, at around 8am the laden car transporter collided with the central reservation. No one was injured.
Police have advised motorists to avoid the area due to large tailbacks and follow diversions.
Chief Insp Colin Clark said: “We have reports of heavy goods vehicles, making their own diversions and being unable to negotiate smaller roads, in particular in West Ilsley, and having to turn around. I would urge all motorists to stick to the diversions in place which are clearly signposted.”
The M4 was closed in Wiltshire this morning, following a two vehicle collision involving a van and Audi A5.
Wiltshire Police, who were at the scene at 6am, said it was believed there were no injuries as a result of the collision.
All three lanes of the M4 were closed in both directions after the Audi collided with the central reservation, with queuing traffic and long delays eastbound between junction 15, A346 (Swindon east) and J14, A338 (Hungerford).
Diversions were in place along the A419, with very slow traffic reported on the A4 Charnham Street eastbound in Hungerford before the A338 Bridge Street junction
Rail passengers also faced delays and cancellations due to a loss of signalling at Reading depot this morning, with trains unable to leave the depot as a result.
This disrupted all rail routes through Reading, causing delays of around an hour, with high speed trains unaffected.
Anyone who witnessed the A34 collision please contact Thames Valley Police on the non emergency telephone number, 101.
