Landscaping supply business Huntley Group Ltd gives out free bee hotels to Newbury community

A landscaping supply shop has given out several free bee hotels to local people and community groups.

Huntley Group Ltd, located on Hambridge Lane, decided to turn pieces of excess firewood into bee hotels after a customer asked to have one for a Newbury allotment.

After Huntley heard the first one at the allotment had been a success, it decided to create more to give to those that wanted them.

It advertised the giveaway on social media, and then on Saturday, August 5, around 100 people went to the store, enjoyed a free tea or coffee, and collected their free bee hotel.

Group managing director Lee Huntley said: “We feel honoured as a local business to be able to contribute such a beneficial product for our natural wildlife community.

“Not only does this heavily reduce excess waste from our firewood production as a business, it more importantly has a substantially positive reward and outcome for our wildlife friends of the community.

“We would like to welcome anyone local to the area an opportunity to collect one of our bee hotels free of charge whether that be local charity establishments, schools, nurseries or colleges.

“This is fantastic for wildlife areas, also a huge benefit for the younger generation within schools and nurseries.

“We hope to see a positive outcome from this donation in respect of wildlife, we welcome any pictures and feedback from anyone that has received our bee hotels.”
