Community United hosting fourth cricket day at Falkland Cricket Club in Newbury
A community organisation supporting ethnically diverse communities is holding its fourth cricket event.
Community United is inviting different groups and members of the community for an enjoyable day of competitive sport at Falkland Cricket Club in Newbury on Sunday, September 15.
“Last year was still a fantastic day despite the rain, and this year it will be twice as good,” said Community United CEO Alice Kunjappy-Clifton.
Mayor of Newbury Andy Moore is expected to open the event.
And members of Thatcham Town Council, the Greenham Trust and the National Asian Cricket Council are also due to attend.
Up to 12 mixed teams are expected to take part, consisting of the West Berks Muslim Centre, the Indian community, Project Salama, Time to Talk, the Alliance for Cohesion and Racial Equality, Newbury Town Council, Fink Street Food, the Bradfield Ladies team and Berkshire Youth.
Last year’s winners, Thames Valley Police West Berkshire, are returning to defend their title.
There will be diverse cuisine on offer, and Berkshire Youth will be providing plenty of children’s activities.
The team from the Royal Berkshire Foundation Trust will be offering free health checks, and Suffusion will be back highlighting natural beauty products.
“This really is a day of fun and friendship for all,” said Carol Jackson-Doerge of Community United.
“For our sponsors, it’s a chance to say they believe in the community coming together as one.”

Community United is grateful to Berkshire Cricket Foundation, Berkshire Cricket Officials Association, Falkland Cricket Club, Newbury Town Council and Greenham Trust for their support and sponsorship of this event.
