Compton fire cause investigation ongoing
According to Mike Wilson, manager of Red Watch at Newbury Fire Station, one pump from Newbury, together with two more from Goring and Didcot fire stations were called at 11.15pm, to a fire in a utility room at a house in Burrell Road.
On arrival, firefighters found an occupant of the house, helped by neighbours, had mostly succeeded in extinguishing the blaze, after being alerted by activated smoke alarms.
One person was taken to hospital by ambulance suffering from smoke inhalation.
The fire was confined to the utility room with about two square metres of damage to this room.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established, with investigations by the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS)continuing into this and which was resumed this morning (Sun) by the RBFRS.
Firefighters left the scene last night after about an hour.
Police and ambulance services were also at the scene.
