Around 125 postcodes were hit by a power outage following reports of 'explosions' in the Thatcham area this afternoon (Tuesday).

However, the nature of the issues remain unclear, with power already restored at a number of addresses.

At 1.20pm, a Facebook user noted explosions within the vicinity of Thatcham, and included a photo with his post showing a damaged electricity pole.

Comments on the post confirmed that power had only gone out briefly in many areas.

However, SSE's website currently indicates that a number of homes and businesses nearby are still experiencing outages.

These are said to have started around 1pm, initially affecting around 125 postcodes.

Newbury Fire Station has confirmed that it sent a unit to attend an incident.
