Constable's Hungerford Fund to tackle cost of living crisis
A NEW fundraising appeal to help local residents struggling with the cost of living crisis is being launched by the Town & Manor of Hungerford.
As many in the town struggle to manage as food, fuel and energy prices rise, the charity has set up the Constable’s Hungerford Fund – and made a matched funding pledge, too.
Those who are eligible and apply to receive support, will receive a one-off payment of £100 to help towards rising bills.
Fundraising is under way and will continue over the next few months, before the first payments are made from October 1.
The Town & Manor is inviting local people who are able to help those in need of additional support to contribute to the fund and donate via a dedicated online link.
The Town & Manor has also pledged to match every £1,000 raised by public donations, up to a limit of £10,000.
Households in the town wanting to apply for a grant, are eligible if they meet the following two criteria:
n They live in the town of Hungerford.
n They are receiving means-tested welfare benefits (for example, Universal Credit, disability benefit, housing benefit, and so on).
The Constable of the Town & Manor, Peter Joseph, said: "For centuries the Town & Manor has been quietly supporting all the residents and groups in Hungerford through charitable donations and management of public access lands, and I'm very proud of that.
"With the launch of the Constable’s Fund, which is specifically focused on helping those in most need, I feel that a direct approach is required."
Town mayor Helen Simpson said: "This is a marvellous initiative and we support it wholeheartedly."
