Construction begins at new Aldi store

Earlier this month the Newbury Weekly News revealed that after a 10-year wait budget retailer Aldi was set to open its first store in the town.
The German company has cleared another planning hurdle and can now begin to build out the scheme in London Road.
Approved this week were minor alterations to access along the road and the re-positioning of the manager’s office.
Aldi bought the site of the former Renault dealership in London Road in 2009, and despite falling at the first hurdle it returned with fresh plans which were approved.
Newbury is one of 30 stores it intends to open, and is expected to create about 12 jobs in the town.
