Corn Exchange aglow for autism awareness
The spectacular display, arranged by the West Berkshire branch of the National Autistic Society, was mirrored by landmarks worldwide to highlight World Autism Awareness Day on Tuesday.
Branch members spent the day in Northbrook Street giving out information with a lifesize mascot, balloons and glowsticks.
They were joined by the Berkshire Autistic Society, Mencap, autism professionals and many more supporters, all offering information and support.
In the evening, the Corn Exchange was illuminated to symbolically shine a light on autism.
About 7,000 landmarks and buildings were lit up in 750 cities, in 90 countries, and seven continents.
The NAS ambassador for West Berkshire, Tracy Underwood, said: "I have to say I have been humbled by the generous support of all the local companies, restaurants and retailers that we have approached.
“The light-up could not have gone ahead without the agreement and help of West Berkshire Council, and the Corn Exchange and its staff.”
The branch chairwoman for West Berkshire National Autistic Society, Kate Lo, said: “I have seen personally what the right support can do for a child with autism, and the difference it can make to a family.
“I feel very privileged to be part of the West Berkshire branch.”
