Coronation flypast over Berkshire could be cancelled
More than 60 aircraft from the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force, including the Red Arrows, had planned to fly over Buckingham Palace today (Saturday) and then disperse across the country to mark the King and Queen’s Coronation.
But poor weather now risks cancelling the flypast at the last minute.
The weather is unsettled across the UK, with the Met Office forecasting heavy downpours yesterday (Friday) and Sunday, with further showers expected today.
RAF air chief marshal, Sir Michael Wigston, stated it is “50/50” as to whether the event will go ahead, with the final decision to be made just one or two hours before it is due to start.
If the flypast goes ahead, the aircraft will soar over Berkshire between 2.20pm to 3pm.
Rainfall also impacted Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation celebrations in June 1953.
