More than 30,000 homes get council tax rebate in West Berkshire
More than half of households in West Berkshire have applied for and got the £150 rebate on their council tax.
The money – part of the Treasury’s attempt at softening the cost of living rise – is being given to people who are in council tax bands A-D.
So far, 19,474 homes have been paid the cash, amounting to around £2.9m.
West Berkshire Council is administering the payments, and says a further 10,000 payments will be made this month – totalling £1.5m.
There are around 60,000 homes in West Berkshire.
But around 700 of those eligible for the payment have yet to be paid, as they are not on a direct debit system to pay their council tax.
“We are contacting those people directly,” said chief executive Nigel Lynn. “And hope to sort those payments out as soon as possible.”
