Thatcham Festival returns as council seeks applications for events
Thatcham Festival is returning for 2024, and is seeking applications for events from Thatcham-based individuals and groups, writes Kyra Radley.
Thatcham Town Council has been holding the festival yearly since 2000.
And this year, it is seeking to revitalise it with new events and activities.
The event will run from October 11 - October 20.
The council is encouraging any local talent, or local communities who want to expand to apply.
Mayor of Thatcham, Mark Lillycrop said: “Thatcham Festival is a great opportunity to showcase the artistic talents of our community, from dance groups to writers, dramatic performers, and musicians, as well as reflecting our local history and the diversity of the surrounding countryside.
“I am excited to see what new events we will have on offer from both our regular contributors and those for whom it will be their first year.”
The council wants to host a variety of experiences across the day including workshops, talks and walks, performances and exhibitions.
It is aiming to cater to many ages and groups within the local community with their entertainment.
Previous years of the festival have been celebrations of local creativity and learning that have emphasised community spirit.
Events that will be returning include the Big Thatcham Fest Off and the Leisure and Craft Market.
These events allow the community to visit local food business at market stalls, see entertainment on the High Street, and hear local talent perform music.
It also enables the community to learn how they might get involved with local charities and organisations.
Applications to be a part of the event are now open and will close on Friday, May 24.
The form to apply can be found on Thatcham Town Council’s website.
