Could you be a 'steps to work' mentor?

The programme aims to help people who have faced a challenge in their lives, such as homelessness, to prepare for learning or work.
A mentor would spend three hours a week providing structure and support to help give the person they are working with the confidence, knowledge and ability to change their life.
One-to-one time can help people into learning or into work by encouraging self-belief and self-confidence, raising awareness of opportunities and choices, leading by example, teaching practical skills and helping them manage transitions successfully.
Mentoring also offers an adult relationship that is not about care, protection or control.
Three hours a week will be required and full training will be given.
Training is provided in Newbury from 9.30am to 3pm on Friday, September 28 and Friday, October 5.
If you are interested in becoming a mentor, either telephone Rachel Craggs on 01635 264617 or email stepstowork@westberks.gov.uk
