Dogs Trust Newbury appeal to find a pup a home in time for Valentine's Day
Dogs Trust Newbury is on a quest to find a special Valentine's Day match for a loveable but overlooked pooch.
The team at Dogs Trust Newbury is calling on local dog lovers to open their homes and hearts to one of its greyhounds in time for Valentine's Day.
Staff at the rehoming centre work to ensure their canine lodgers are happy and looked after while they wait on potential new owners.
As Valentine's Day approaches, the team hopes loveable sighthound Hawk can find his perfect match.
Hawk the five-year-old greyhound loves to show his affection by leaning into his people pals for a fuss.
He enjoys chasing his toys – including squeaky ones – and his biggest love is definitely food.
He would prefer to live as an only dog but would like to have some fellow sighthound walking companions.
He loves all people, including children aged 10 and over, and would prefer a family who are around most of the time.
Canine carers Kelly Black and Chloe Surman are two of Hawk's biggest fans.
"Hawk is a really friendly boy who is always excited to see you," they said.
"His tail does not stop wagging when you enter his kennel to get him ready for a walk.
"He loves the company of people and does not mind what we are doing, whether it is going for walk or chilling in a compound."
Hawk also loves spending time with the volunteers at Dogs Trust Newbury.
Two of his favourite volunteers are really hoping he will find his fur-ever home this Valentine's Day.
Dogs Trust volunteer Jo Berrington said: "Hawk is an absolute delight to be with. As soon as I arrive at Dogs Trust, I always go and say hello before I start work.
"He is a calm and gentle soul that gives the best greetings and when you walk him, he loves human contact and will nuzzle up to you.
"He never pulls on the lead; he just walks quietly by your side and loves getting the occasional treat and having his neck tickled.
"Whoever chooses to rehome Hawk will be an incredibly lucky person.
"It breaks my heart that he's still in kennels; I would love to see him find his forever home."
