Dog of the Week: The latest dogs looking for their forever homes from Newbury Dogs Trust
Today we’re launching a new online feature highlighting some of the dogs waiting for their forever home.
Dogs Trust Newbury has a number of dogs at its Hamstead Marshall base who need a new home.
Nationwide, the charity currently has 754 dogs that are looking for a family to join.
You can find out more about adopting a dog by visiting the charity’s website.
And each Sunday we will feature one of the dogs looking for a new home in West Berkshire.
But to kick us off this week we have a bumper edition of five dogs to tell you about – Harper, Ronnie, Roscoe, Rodney and Tilly.
You can find out more on each of them below, with full details on the Dogs Trust website.
Roscoe (ref 3436990) – pictured above
Roscoe, is a four-year-old retired ex-racing greyhound, is looking for his loving forever home.
He could potentially live with another calm dog in the household, ideally another sighthound as he hasn’t been exposed to many other breeds.
Natasha Tarrant, centre manager at Dogs Trust Newbury, said: “Roscoe is a lovely chap who has got on really well with both our staff and other dogs since arriving.
“A gentle lad who has lots of love to give, Roscoe is a big dog with a big heart, and he would be a lovely addition to the right household.
“Roscoe enjoys the company of people, so would love someone to call his best friend.”
He often goes on walks around the centre with other dogs and enjoys socialising, and also enjoys a journey in the car so the opportunities for walkies are endless.
Harper (ref 1262617)
Harper is a male trailhound cross, aged between two and five years.
Harper is looking for an active adult only home, with people who would love to take him on long walks and let him enjoy exploring lots of new places.
He would need to be in a home with a secure garden with high fences and no other pets.
Harper is a sweet boy, who also loves his toys and to receive fuss and cuddles.
He arrived at Dogs Trust in November 2022 after being found as a stray.
Rodney (ref 3436999)
Greyhound Rodney is aged between five and seven years.
He is a male dog who can live with other dogs and older children.
Rodney is looking for a quiet home with adopters who are willing to build relationships slowly and continue to build his confidence.
He is a retired ex-racing greyhound so needs people willing to walk him on lead and muzzled.
He cannot live with small furries or cats.
Tilly (ref 1113543) – Tilly is now reserved
Tilly is a 10-year-old border collie cross who is looking for a quiet, adult only home that has its own private, secure garden she can sniff about and investigate.
She can become overwhelmed by too much commotion but is a sweet, affectionate girl who loves cuddles and playtime.
Although she is happy to walk past dogs while out and about, she isn’t interested in interactions, therefore she’d want to be the only pet in the household to soak up all love.
Tilly isn’t a fan of cars, so a home away from busy roads and one willing to continue her training around traveling and in cars would be perfect.
She’s currently in a foster home and is house-trained.
Ronnie (ref 3072549)
Ronnie is a six-year-old female Rottweiler cross who came to Dogs Trust through no fault of her own.
She would like to be an only pet as she can find dog interactions worrying at times, but she could live with older children.
Ronnie is currently having hydrotherapy which she loves and would love to find an adopter who can continue this fun activity with her.
She is on some medication which the Newbury team can discuss with any potential adopters.
She is an affectionate girl who enjoys spending time in the garden before snuggling up on the sofa in the evenings - often upside down!
Ronnie REALLY loves food which makes training and building relationships quite easy.
