Could you help build a Taj Mahal?
The West Berkshire Minority Ethnic Forum is looking for someone to help create a backdrop for their carnival float
A NEWBURY Carnival entry is looking for help to build a Taj Mahal for this year's parade.
The West Berkshire Minority Ethnic Forum (WBMEF) would love to have a backdrop of the Taj Mahal on their float, but need someone to help them draw and design the overall shape and then cut it out from board.
Waheeda Soomro, from the WBMEF, said: “We'd love to hear from anyone who could help us with this. We entered the Carnival for the first time in 2009 and it was great fun, working together on our float.
“We would be very grateful to anyone who can join us to work on our float. We'll provide all the materials that are needed.”
Meanwhile, entries for this year's parade on Sunday, July 10 are coming in thick and fast and organisers are hopeful of having more than 50 entrants on the day.
Carnival secretary, Jacquie Cooper, said: “We've had a great response to this year's ‘Going for Gold' theme which seems to have really inspired people.
“Everyone is interpreting it in different ways. We've got entries including pirates' gold, panning for gold in the Wild West and leprechauns with gold at the end of the rainbow and with settings ranging from Ancient Egypt to Las Vegas.”
She said, however, that entrants do not have to stick to the theme, adding that the more creative and colourful an entry is, the better it will be.
