Could your Christmas tree go to Number 10?

Grower of the best tree and wreath to be placed in Downing Street will be decided in Yattendon today (Thursday)

THE best British Christmas tree grower will be crowned in Yattendon today (Thursday) with the winner having one of their trees displayed outside the Prime Minister's residence during the festive period.

The British Christmas Tree Growers Association, which champions the use of sustainable real Christmas trees, is hosting its 13th annual Christmas Tree competition at Yattendon Estate.

The winner will be announced at approximately 3pm and receive the honour of delivering one of their outdoor Christmas trees to David Cameron to stand outside 10 Downing Street this December.

In addition, the winner of the champion wreath category will see their decorated wreath take up prime position on the iconic black door at Number 10 throughout the festive season.

The competition is divided into five categories: pine, fir, spruce, container growth and wreaths.

Each finalist can submit two of any one species per category and all trees entered must be 1.8m to 2.2m in height.

The judges score the trees on their foliage, colour, shape and marketability to determine the overall winner.
