West Berkshire Council approves controversial Beenham wedding barn proposal
A controversial wedding venue has been given the go ahead by West Berkshire Council.
A highly contentious application to convert a listed barn into a wedding venue in Beenham was granted conditional approval last week.
The change of use at Awberry Farm would see provision for 28 weddings a year on Saturdays only accomodating no more than 120 guests.
The Eastern Area Planning Committe recommended the application for approval, so long as the venue only operates on the days and times specified and adheres to the stipulated noise control measures.
The level of music must not exceed 35dB and cannot be played on any other site than within the tithe barn. All music must cease by 11pm.
Each event may only commence between 12pm and 11.30pm, and the adjacent guest accomodation can only be used in conjunction with the wedding venue between 12pm on the Friday and 12pm on the Sunday.
The committee recognised the benefits the venue would bring to the rural economy, but it did acknowledge the negative impact of increased traffic to the area.
A separate listed building consent has been submitted to facilitate the works required to the barn, which will include additional sound insulation and ventilation works, and approval of retrospective works.
A separate licence for holding public functions with alcohol will also be required.
