Council approves new signage for Pangbourne Co-op

West Berkshire Council (WBC) has approved a proposal for new signage at Pangbourne Co-op.

Bethany Fielding applied for permission to change the existing signage at the store, located at 6-7 The Square.

Pangbourne Parish Council objected to the application, saying: “The existing hanging sign is not illuminated, and does not include the parking indication.”

It added: “We believe the additional illumination is inappropriate in a conservation area.

“We are concerned that the parking signs could be misleading, resulting in drivers turning into the private parking space adjacent to the store, obstructing the access for pedestrians, and having to reverse out into the A329.”

The applicant responded by making the following amendments.

It removed the two vegetable graphics on the right-hand side windows; will ensure the display units will have backs on them; has replaced the apple graphics with frosted vinyl to cover the kiosk area; and put a trough light on the projector sign to make it externally illuminated.

WBC accepted the amendments and approved the proposal.

It said: “The proposed signage would have a limited impact with regards to the street scene within the Pangbourne conservation area.

“There will be no harmful impact on the locality, public safety or amenity.”
