Council balls up over sign
A sign that was recently erected at a children's play area near a basketball hoop appears to prohibit ball games
WEST Berkshire Council appears to have made a balls up with a sign at a local children's play area.
The council recently erected a sign at the children's play area near Shaw Social Club, adjacent to a new basketball hoop and football goal, which appears to prohibit ball games in the area.
The sign also shows pictures prohibiting dogs, smoking, alcohol and bikes at the area, with West Berkshire Council stating that it aims to keep the area clean and tidy.
The location of the sign has caught the attention of Newburytoday.co.uk forum users though, with several commenting that the sign had made them smile.
However, West Berkshire Council spokesman, Phil Spray, said there were no plans to make changes to the sign or its location.
He said: “The sign in question clearly says that 'no ball games' refers only to the children's play area. Ball games are welcomed elsewhere on the recreation ground.”
