Thatcham Town Council begins upgrades on Broadway public toilets
Pennies are being spent on the public toilets in Thatcham town centre as the facility undergoes various improvements.
The town council has already spent £2,125 on repainting the facility and a further £690 on a deep clean.
A CCTV camera was installed in March to record those entering and exiting the facility.
The “vandal resistant” camera cost £866 and only records on motion detection.
It is now considering further improvements, such as replacing signage and improving ventilation.

An accessibility assessment will highlight whether signage can be improved for greater inclusivity.
There have been other suggestions made for potential consideration in the future – one being sloped seats which sit at a 15 degree angle. These seats deter sitting for longer than five minutes and have been installed elsewhere to deter antisocial behaviour.
An alarm that sounds after 15 minutes of continuous use may also be considered in the future.
