Council cyclists complete challenge

Five cyclists from West Berkshire Council cycled 250 miles from Newbury to Paris to raise money for charity

FIVE cyclists from West Berkshire Council have completed their gruelling 250-mile cycle ride to raise money for a local charity.

Council leader Graham Jones (Con, Lambourn), head of cultural services David Appleton, countryside manager Paul Hendry, archaeological officer Duncan Coe and Phil Mitchell, from Trading Standards, completed the challenge in Paris on Saturday (October 1), having set off from Newbury's Clock Tower at about 7am last Thursday morning (September 29).

The challenge was organised to raise money for local charity Swings and Smiles, whose aim is to build a recreational facility in West Berkshire for special needs children.

According to the team's Just Giving website, almost £2,500 has been raised so far.
