Council event to mark Carer's Rights Day today
The event will feature talks on the role of carers and the implications of the Care Act 2014 which passed into law earlier this year. The keynote speaker will be West Berkshire Council’s head of adult social care, Tandra Forster, who will discuss what carers can expect from the Act.
The council’s executive member for community services, Keith Chopping, said: “Carers play a crucial role in looking after family members and friends and it is important they know how changes to the Care Act will benefit or affect them.”
Representatives from organisations. including Age UK Berkshire, Alzheimer’s Society, Berkshire Carers Service and Healthwatch, will be at the meeting, from 2pm to 4pm, in the council chambers, Market Street, Newbury.
Free NHS health checks will also be available.
