Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council launches councillor community grant scheme for 2024
Community groups and organisations can now apply for funding for small-scale local initiatives following this year’s launch of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s councillor community grant scheme.
Now in its fourth year, the scheme has seen more than 220 grants awarded to community organisations to help them deliver projects that make a difference to people’s lives and bring communities together.
Groups that benefitted from last year’s grant scheme include Ashford Hill with Headley Parish Council which was awarded £550 for a picnic table, Loddon Valley Lions Club in Tadley was awarded £1,222.74 for a prostate cancer screening event and Ecchinswell Village Hall was awarded £3,000 in order to carry out emergency repairs to a changing room roof.
Basingstoke and Deane’s director for resident services Fiona Darby said: “This grant means that our councillors, who work at the heart of our communities, are able to support local groups with funding for projects and activities which could make a difference to our residents’ lives.
“We would like to encourage groups and organisations to find out more about this grant scheme and get in touch with their ward councillors to talk through their ideas for how this funding could support them in bringing benefit to their communities.”
Each councillor is given a total allocation of £2,000 which they can use to support organisations providing services or facilities that benefit the residents in their ward.
Councillors can individually support applications for grants of between £250 and £2,000.
They can also pool funding with one or two other councillors within Basingstoke and Deane to provide grants up to a maximum of £3,000.
