Community projects get cash help from developments
West Berkshire Council has allocated £500k to local communities in the latest round of funding from its Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) money.
That is a charge it levies from new developments, to go towards infrastructure.
Newbury’s old library will benefit with a £50k boost to its £1.2m redevelopment.
The Churches Conservation Trust in Basildon wants to replace the nave roof at St Bartholomew's Church and will get £20k towards the total cost of £184k.
Bucklebury Memorial Hall is improving disabled facilities and access, including upgrading toilets, costing £10k, and £6k will come from the CIL levy.
Replacing the skate park will cost Burghfield Parish Council £220k – helped by £100k from CIL funds.
The trustees of East Garston Village Hall want to add more solar panels to the roof of the village hall and install a new inverter to reduce the carbon footprint costing £14k; £7k of which is covered by CIL.
Holybrook Parish Council is converting a pre-existing storage facility to a cafe kiosk costing £18k with CIL funding of £9k.
