Council rejects proposed expansion to Burghfield Common village stores

West Berkshire Council (WBC) has refused to grant planning permission for two proposed new dwellings and associated access at Sunnyside Village Stores in Burghfield Common following a partial demolition at the rear of the store.

The council rejected the proposal, submitted by Mr M Patel, on Monday (March 18) due to concerns about its impact on AWE Burghfield’s Off-Site emergency plan, loss of privacy to neighbouring properties and updated parking provision — which includes another six spaces.

Burghfield Parish Council objected on grounds of insufficient parking, poor design and access and insufficient amenity space.

WBC’s highways team also recommended the application for refusal due to “insufficient car parking”.
