Council says office move is a no-go
District council says moving from Market Street to London Road Industrial Eastate would be 'unviable'
WEST Berkshire Council says it won’t be moving its offices from Market Street to the London Road Industrial Estate – because it would be unviable.
Wash Common resident Peter Norman asked the council whether it would consider the move to free up more land for the proposed Market Street development.
The council is currently considering an application from developer Grainger to build 225 homes on land around its current offices.
Mr Norman, who stood as an Apolitical candidate at last year’s local elections, quizzed the council over whether it had evaluated the business case in terms of reducing maintenance and costs.
But at a recent executive meeting, the council’s portfolio holder for property, Dominic Boeck, said there were currently no plans for such a move.
