Councillors set to vote on use of compulsory purchase powers for A339 access road... again

West Berkshire Council looking to acquire land for London Road Industrial Estate development

COUNCILLORS are once again set to vote on the use of compulsory purchase powers to acquire a vital piece of land for an access road off the A339 at a meeting tomorrow night (Thursday).

West Berkshire Council will be holding the special meeting to decide whether to use a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) for the land leading onto the London Road Industrial Estate (LRIE) which is the subject of a proposed redevelopment plan.

Council had been due to vote on the issue in December but were unable to do so after the wrong report was given to councillors ahead of the meeting.

The latest blunder followed a range of problems and delays since the summer including legal issues, technical inaccuracies and changes in circumstance.

The land which will be the subject of the CPO will be used to create a new access road from the A339, onto Fleming Road, subsequently leading to Faraday Road.

The CPO will also include a slither of land from Victoria Park to form the access road which will be part of the council’s wider plans to develop the London Road Industrial Estate, which will see 300 homes and an 80-bed hotel built.

The meeting will be held Thursday (January 21) in the Council Chambers at West Berkshire Council Offices in Market Street at 7pm.
