West Berkshire Council refuses temporary planning permission for football club's metal container

It's a story with more rounds that the FA cup... and another twist in the tale of Newbury's Faraday Road playing pitch has emerged.

West Berkshire Council has refused temporary planning permission for a metal container to be put on the site of the burned down club house.

The council last year gave the Newbury Community Football Group planning permission to build a club house, but has not allowed the group to take back the pitch for playing football.

The pitch had all the floodlights and perimeter fencing removed by the council last year.

The council has designated the site for industrial development.

But there is no current planning application in for the development, leaving the grassy pitch free to use.

The NCFG submitted an application for a Certificate of Lawfulness to put a metal container on the site to use as temporary changing facilities.

The idea was even supported by the Newbury Society – a conservation pressure group.

But in refusing the application the council said the development described in this notice "does not fall within the national conditions and limitations of permitted development set out in the Town and Country Planning Order 2015".

As such, it continued, the described development is not lawful for the purposes under section 192 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, and an application for planning permission from the local planning authority would be required.
