Country's ugliest dog crowned
She captured the hearts of the nation but she has been crowned the UK’s ugliest dog.
Three-year-old Peggy from East Yorkshire won photography company ParrotPrint’s competition after its extensive country-wide search.
The pooch shot to stardom as she promoted the contest on BBC Breakfast, This Morning, Channel 5 News and BBC 5.
The company said: “When we launched our contest in late 2022 we were flooded with entries but the vast majority were simply too cute to be serious contenders in an ugly dog competition.
“Peggy was the exception.”
Described by ParrotPrint as ‘aesthetically challenged’ Peggy won for her hairless body and lolling tongue- both of which captured the attention of the British public.
She will soon claim her prize of a makeover and pamper session at a doggie spa before receiving a commemorative canvas print for her wall at home.
Her rags to riches story captured the company who said she started life as the runt of an accidental litter, and was the last one to be homed after all her brothers and sisters were selected for adoption.
As her siblings were taken away one by one to loving homes Peggy remained unwanted.
She remained with her mother’s family for six long months as they desperately searched for a new home for her.
Peggy’s luck finally changed when mum of two Holly Middleton came to take a look at the puppy no one wanted and fell in love at first sight.
She said: “We came across Peggy online at the end of 2018, she was six months old and the last remaining pup of an accidental litter.
"We loved her the Instant we laid eyes on her with her big brown eyes, little tuft of white hair and her tongue lolling out to one side.
“I just felt sorry for her, sat there with no hair and her tongue out.”
She added: “"From the moment Peggy arrived, she's been a beloved addition to our family.
“She has grown up alongside our two boys and is the most loving, laid back and gentle dog we could ever ask for.”

Head judge and ParrotPrint.com founder Matt Dahan said: “When we launched this contest I never once thought we’d find a dog like her who manages to be both ugly and so, so cute all at the same time.
“We can’t wait to give her the pamper session she so deserves and think that she will become a real star in the future.”
