County show countdown is on...
The marking out of Newbury Showground is underway ahead of next month's Royal County of Berkshire Show
THE countdown to this year's Royal County of Berkshire Show began on Saturday (Aug 6), with the marking out of Newbury Showground.
With less than six weeks to go to the September 17/18 show, showground director, Tim Dennis, was keen to dispel any myths that running the show was a “simple” affair, with trade stands merely arranged as they arrived:
“Nothing could be further from the truth, planning goes on all year round, and the physical marking out of the showground is really the end product of all of that work,” said Mr Dennis.
“Marking out will take us every weekend now until the show itself, and the excitement and buzz around the showground really starts to build from now as the first marquees are erected and later as trade stands start arriving...”
Show chairman, Alan Pooles, added this year's show would include several new attractions - plus all the usual favourites: “Livestock entries have just closed and a huge turnout is assured, Trade stand space has also nearly sold out, with just a few spaces remaining, and of course we have fantastic main ring entertainment,” said Mr Pooles.
“The Band of the Ghurkhas will play on both days and in the Year of the Horse we have the Devils Horsemen to thrill and entertain us all.”
