Bucklebury couple celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

A couple are celebrating 50 years of being married to one another.

After multiple illnesses and losing loved ones, Colin and Helen Annetts, from Bucklebury, are pleased to be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, October 6.

The pair first met when they were teenagers in 1969, when Mrs Annetts was playing in the field at Curling Way, Turnpike.

They became inseparable and married on October 6, 1973.

The couple welcomed their first son Colin Jr in 1974. Their second son Michael was born a year later, followed by daughter Patricia in 1978 and Cindy in 1980.

As a family, they enjoyed tending to their allotments and hold particularly fond memories of visiting the Isle of Sheppey off the northern coast of Kent.

Mr Annetts and his sons would go fishing and return to find Mrs Annetts and the girls baking eel pie.

“They are a couple who have nearly lost each other with many serious cancer and heart issues,” said Cindy Bunce (née Annetts). “Dad was recovering from pancreas cancer and we weren't sure he would see this day.

“But they are still very much in love as they were 50 years ago.”

The couple now have nine grandchildren whom they love and enjoy creating new memories with, added Mrs Bunce.
