Congratulations to Hungerford diamond wedding couple
A HUNGERFORD couple have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
David and June Howard celebrated the diamond wedding anniversary with their family at their son and daughter-in-law's home in Eddington.
The pair moved to Hungerford from Bristol, Somerset, in 1969.
Mr Howard established and ran Howards Pet Care in Park Street after a long, previous career working for agricultural merchants H Doltons and Sons of Hermitage.
Mrs Howard was previously an accountant for her two family businesses and was also one of the longest-serving reps for the cosmetic company, Avon, in the area, putting in over 30 years of service.
Both have taken a lifelong interest in all aspects of Hungerford civic and social life.
Mr Howard was a magistrate, starting off at the Hungeford court then transferring to Newbury before finishing up working from Reading, after the other two courts closed down.
Mr Howard has been a long term member of the Rotary Club of Hungerford and was previously a member of the The Community of Hungerford Theatre Company, acting in many of the productions as a double act with his partner in comedy, Viv Long, in the 1980s and 1990s.
Mrs Howard has always been a member of the Hungerford Historical Society and NADFAS (National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies), enjoying trips away with the organisation around the world including a visit to see cherry blossoms of Japan and the sights of India.
Prior to having a stroke, she was also an active member of The Hungerford Friday Morning walking group.
Both have also been active, long-standing members of the Hungerford Catholic church.
Mrs Howard is currently recuperating from a fall but is now back home full time and making good progress.
Both are still waiting for their Royal 60th telegram to arrive but the application was processed prior to the Queen’s death.
Son Andrew said: "It may have King Charles' name on it when it finally arrives but there was a postal strike on their anniversary so it still hasn't arrived yet – watch this space."
