Police have been allowed to keep £17,500 seized from a Newbury man for a further six months.
At Reading Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, December 14, Thames Valley Police made the application for the continued detention of the money seized from Darren James Smith at his home in Cherry Close, "having reasonable grounds for suspecting that it is recoverable property, that is property obtained through unlawful conduct or intended for use in unlawful conduct".
The court granted the application, which was made in accordance with section 295 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
Mr Smith was not present at the hearing, although he was legally represented.
