Court concerned for mental health of jilted lover Sebastian Springett from Newbury

PSYCHIATRIC reports have been ordered on a jilted lover who threatened to kill his partner and slit her ex-husband’s throat.

A previous hearing at Reading Magistrates’ Court last December was told how Sebastian Springett also broke into his terrified victim’s Newbury home while her children were inside and began throwing things around.

The 30-year-old, of Riverdale Court, off London Road in Newbury, admitted threatening to kill Hayley Terry, intending her to fear he would carry out the threat, last June 11.

He further admitted using violence for the purpose of securing entry into a specified address in Priory Road, knowing that there was someone present on those premises who was opposed to the said entry, on the same occasion.

On that occasion magistrates adjourned the case for pre-sentence reports to be prepared.

At the resumed hearing on Thursday, January 25, Heulwen Everton, defending, asked for a further adjournment so her client could “get some help with his mental health problems”.

She said the court would benefit from a detailed psychiatric report.

Adam Yarr-Khan, prosecuting, concurred.

Magistrates adjourned sentencing for further reports.

Mr Springett, who spoke only to confirm his details, was meanwhile granted bail on condition he did not go within 500m of Ms Terry’s home or contact her, either directly or indirectly.
