Cow killed in Hungerford Common hit-and-run

A COW died a slow death after being struck by a car on Hungerford Common.

The driver did not report the incident, which happened on Saturday night.

It is not the first time a cow has been fatally injured after being struck in a hit-and-run incident on the common.

Following this latest incident, the Town and Manor of Hungerford, the charity which owns and manages the common, posted: “Had it been reported the vet would immediately have been involved and stopped her suffering.

“She slowly died from severe internal injuries on the common on Sunday morning.

“Please take responsibility for your actions.

“This could easily have been someone walking home from a party.

“If you think you’ve hit one of the cows on Hungerford Common please report it.

“Call the hayward on 07467 826499 or call 101.”

There have also been other, non-fatal injuries resulting from vehicle strikes which went unreported at the time.
