Crafty Craft reaches national audience

ONE of West Berkshire's most popular events, Crafty Craft, featured on national television last night (Thursday).

The annual race from Hungerford to Newbury in homemade craft featured on the programme Jo Brand's Big Splash, which was aired on the digital television channel Dave.

The programme showed footage of when comedienne Jo Brand took part in the race in May, dressed in a wedding gown in honour of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's royal wedding, which took place earlier the same weekend.

It also showed how Brand and her team hilariously cheated during the race, after being towed along the Kennet and Avon Canal, and were subsequently disqualified by race organisers.

Crafty Craft organiser, Paul Mernagh, said it was great to get the national coverage from the programme, adding that it would hopefully make potential sponsors realise what a great opportunity it provided.

Meanwhile, the theme and date of next year's race was confirmed earlier this week.

The event will take place on the May Bank Holiday weekend, on Monday, May 7, with an Olympic theme.
