UPDATE, 9.35am: Delays are now reaching 90 minutes on the M4 after an earlier crash.

National Highways has now said it doesn’t expect the area to be cleared until around 10.30am.

9.20am: A crash is causing severe delays on the M4 this morning (Tuesday).

Two lanes remain blocked on the eastbound carriageway between junction 13 at Chieveley and junction 12 at Theale.

The AA said that the motorway was closed completely for around 15 minutes just after 8am, after the crash, which involved three cars and a van.

It added that there was now a ‘spillage’ on the carriageway.

National Highways said there are currently delays of around 50 minutes in the area.

It said it expected to have the road cleared by 9.45am.

The delays add to already congested roads around Newbury this morning.

The A34 is currently closed southbound between the A339 (Donnington) and the A4 (Newbury) for emergency barrier repairs.

Thames Valley Police are at that scene.

It is leading to long delays on the A339 through Newbury this morning, particularly between the Swan roundabout and the Sainsbury’s roundabout, as well as on the Andover Road (A343) to the Burger King roundabout.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time on all routes.
